The original example from the 2nd century BCE now in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence is considered one of the exemplars of Greek (Hellenic) art. Copied by neo-classical sculptor, Antonio Canova in 1802, after which this example is based. Canova’s version caused a sensation, reanimating antiquity White Carrara (statuary) marble in mint original condition.
