An English William IV period ‘Elizabethan’ turned beech chair, with rush seat in mint condition, with a great patina c 1835.
Harking back to the ancient turned, black stained chairs of Elizabeth 1st (1533 -1603), whose origins were actually far more exotic, in collecting vogue from c 1770. Chairs of this type are spotted in 1830s English interiors, & conversely, contemporary spaces by the London trad decorator, Robert Kime. (98 x 58 x 47cm)
