A wonderfully confident late Regency / George IV period sofa in Greek Revival mode. The solid Brazillian rosewood back centred by an anthemion & scrolling acanthus leaves, also to the polished overscrolled arms and feet.
The feet concealing original brass patent revolving casters.
Formerly part of the furnishings of Elizabeth Bay House, Sydney N.S.W (see final image).
Upholstered in John Soane ‘patent yellow’ silk moreen, with Brunswig & Fils gimp, duck down bolsters by Elizabeth Bay House Museum.
