An English Regency period metamorphic library chair c.1815 with ‘sabre legs and scroll elbows’. Mahogany with lovely old patina, caned seat and back.
An elegant example of a rare chair, first invented by Morgan and Sanders of Catherine St, The Strand, London thence published in Akermann’s Repository of the Arts, July 1811.
The chair unfolds from a caned bergere, by the push of a button into a set of library stairs. With its old patina, massed reeding, overscrolled top and caned seat and original gilt brass finials / feet this is a fine example.
