Pair of Boulton & Fothergill Tapersticks c 1765

A wonderful & really rare tiny pair of George III period old Sheffield plate tapersticks, for small wax tapers. With their original sconces, in the form of  fine reeded Corinthian columns. Old Sheffield plate – an annealed sheet of copper fused to a sheet of silver, and worked up by silversmiths from the flat sheet (not electroplate), was only invented c1760.These are stamped by the leading Birmingham industrialists / artists who invented the subject. The mark B&F not used after 1773. They are  literally half the size of standard candlesticks, and just as much work to manufacture.
