Warwick Oakman is delighted to invite you to a Spring / Summer Exhibition of rare and curious treasures, at Richmond, Tasmania.

Opening this Saturday 25th October at 10am, the Exhibition coincides with the Tasmania Chamber Music Festival in Richmond this weekend. Adding to the content of a wonderful series of events in this beautiful town. A joyful day out.

Across a wide range of cultures, times and mediums, a few of the treasures for sale include a life size, 16th century stone lion from Gujarat, a magnificent brass inlaid Regency partners desk by Gillows of Lancaster, supplied for Henham Park, Suffolk (designed by James Wyatt) c 1810 thence by descent to Lord Stradbroke, twice Governor of Victoria; a Greek key inlaid card table with patent mechanism by Wilkinson of London c 1805, mechanical magic lantern slides by Frank Styant Browne of Launceston, a ‘Cavalry’ campaign chest with folding bookcase & secretaire c1870, an extraordinary thirty tune, three barrel chamber organ with drums and triangle UK c 1810, advertised in Sydney in 1813, restored in Sydney in 1955; a beautiful & handy George IV period rosewood musical duet stand UKc 1825, a rare Inuit model of a canoe c 1908, a marvellous Irish chair on dog paw feet c 1770; an Irish Regency serving table also on dog paw feet, Cork c 1820, the first published images of a Man and Woman of Van Diemen’s Land c 1784, A Turkish lady’s smoking jacket c 1820… to name a few.

The exhibition includes the collection of eighteen Old Master prints,  spanning the beginning of woodblock printing to neo-classical mezzotints, purchased by a Tasmanian in London from world specialist, Christopher Mendez Old Master Prints, in the 1970s.
