Tasmanian Colonial Period Cedar Double Washstand c 1840

Tasmanian Colonial Period Cedar Double Washstand c 1840

An appealing Tasmanian colonial period double washstand, with original ‘tray top’ gallery, shaped undertier & persic turned uprights. In richly figured NSW cedar, with good colour & patina. The ‘tray top’ never fixed, lifts off, typical of Irish work illustrated in the Belfast Cabinet- Makers’ Book of Prices, published 1822. It is therefore likely the product of an Irish cabinet maker working in Tasmania. 100cmH x 98cm W x 50cmD.
