These glasses were used for toasting and held a dram of whisky (a quarter of a gill). All that extra metal in the foot supposedly allowed one to slam the glass on a hard surface at the end of the toast to make a sound like a rifle shot, a practice we in no way endorse. This presents a wonderful opportunity to while away an evening 1760, style. Ht 93mm.
Rarest is the opaque twist glass over a terraced foot with a naive engraving that would appear to be contemporary to the glasses’ manufacture, circa 1765. Ht 96mm Price inc GSTSOLD
