Philippe Swyncop was a Belgian artist / illustrator and bon vivante, painting joyful portraits, scenes of artistic life and illustrating newspapers and journals, that were widely copied and reproduced. He was one of the inspirations for Australian artist, Norman Lindsay. He worked and lived in Spain in the latter part of his life, of which this is a fine example.
Educated at the Royal Academy of Arts, Belgium. Awarded the Godecharle Prize 1900. Exhibited Ghent Salon, Maison d. Art Moderne Brussels, Galerie Boigelot Brussels. Represented all Public Collections in Belgium.
