A South German marquetry cabinet c 1740. In finely figured walnut, onto oak & poplar with a good old patina.  The doors with contrasting panels and quadrants of dark walnut, the top with geometric marquetry. Mounted with blued steel carrying handles, and fine original lock, hinges & key. The brass escutcheons with engraved faces  & remains of gilding. The interior with original decoration painted in cobalt of clouds.

Of tight oval form, the flat top with a good patina, handy as a wine table in itself.
