With original gilding & mercury silvered plate, no evidence of ever being fitted with candle arms.  The carved elements  original to the frame, with richly carved acanthus, topped by an Eagle in flight, pairs of anthemions  and a deep moulded frame with inset reeded ebony slip & the mirror in excellent antique condition. A rare 18th century Tibetan silk velvet saddle cloth. Woven in orange saffron  silk with auspicious symbols of Dharma, the flame of Buddha’s teachings and the colour used by monks for their robes to symbolize purity. The quality of the weave would suggest a Buddhist High Monk or Lama, as the original owner. The reverse in faded blue cotton with tying straps. 79cm x 64cm C1750 -1800.
