Cedar Apprentice Chest of Drawers c 1870

Of stylish & unusual form, with original patina, made from recycled La
Flor de Columbus Cuban cedar (Cedrela
odorata) cigar boxes (with their stamp visible to underside of drawers). The bow front form, swept ‘French’ feet, to the front, sides & back plus  galleried top suggest a Welsh trained maker. The use of recycled Cuban cedar raises the broader question of Australian cedar identity, here diagnosed by the remains of the box brands. 25cm H x  18cm Wx  10cm D
