A good quality carved timber mantel mirror, of a type made by Gillows of Lancaster & Fentham of London. Original mercury silvered thin plate in nice condition. The acanthus leaf columns taken from antiquity & the leaf modillions of the Corinthian order. In Colonial slang, a Corinthian was a leader in taste & style, vis Sir John Jamieson & Captain Piper were the ‘first Corinthians of the Colony’. Carved pine. UK c 1835. 93cm H x 110cmW x 7cmD
