A well patinated and good quality set of bookshelves, with removeable brass columns, and turned brass feet. This shelf also has wall fittings, so could be placed on a ship or above a campaign chest. Size 890mm wide x 200mm deep x 600mm high. Typically supplied with brass bound campaign chests, the flat pack bookshelves such as this rarely survive.

The case emblematic of the Homeric legend of Penelope, wife of Odysseus, hero of the Trojan wars & the Odyssey. The maker, Masson a Paris is one of 12 clockmakers recorded, active c. 1808- 29. Dated 1827.
