A rare & finely turned English walnut candlestand. The octagonal top with oyster cut veneered top & quartered mouldings to the edges. The shaft with fine baluster turning of ‘inverted cup & trumpet’ form on three small columns, supported on cabriole legs ending in pad feet. Original finish & excellent patina. From c1680 – 1740 English timber hand lathe turning achieved an artistic & technical height not matched. This is a perfect example of period & type. It originally would have been one of a pair, supporting candlesticks. UK c1720. Ht 109cm
