A lovely example of a small Regency secretaire-bookcase, in wonderful untouched old condition, the mahogany faded to a light mellow colour. Less than a metre wide, the upper section deep enough for modern art books. The bookcase top with reeded ‘Gothick’ glazing, original glass, shelves, lock & key, with fine ebony geometric inlay. The secretaire base similary inlaid, with ebony arrows, the fall front containing a set of pigeon holes & satinwood drawers with fine bone handles and original key & locks. With oval brass handles, a large & small drawer under, all on ‘French’ bracket feet. UK origin c 1815.
