[Why Scottish? The carved paw foot (rather than a brass trail caster with paw foot sabbot), total lack of oak secondary timber – in this case pine / larch, the vertically reeded face to the column shaft was a Trotter of Edinburgh motif, leaf carved ‘hocked’ sabre leg, plus the slightly vernacular proportions].
[Thankyou to the brilliant David Jones, furniture historian, John Hawkins & Regional Furniture History Society work on Trotter.
The Edinburgh & Leith Shipping Co operated a direct Edinburgh – Hobarton / Van Diemens Land service in the 1830s, Trotter of Edinburgh furniture is advertised locally. No wonder Lady Jane Franklin called Hobart ‘the Athens of the South’].
