of Irish / Australian Royal Navy Purser / Paymaster Jeremiah Linde Jones (1791, – 1866 New South Wales), together with two of his Royal Navy buttons, contained in the original carved timber & paper mache frame, typically found on the artist’s works.
Signed lower right. Inscribed verso Sept 12th 1850. J.L. Jones R.N.Paymaster / Purser HMS Ajax. Queenstown/ Cork.
Jones was born Glenross, County Fermanagh, Ireland. Married Charlotte Orme in Calcutta, India 1836. They settled in the Braidwood district of NSW from 1838 – 45, thence to the Paramatta district in NSW, where they had six children.
George Morosini born in Palermo, came to London and in 1840 married Clotilde Parigiani, a well known contralto who sang in Italian opera with Gris, Mario and Lablanche; she was also a cousin of Pope Pius IX. They settled in Dublin at 134 Baggot Street shortly after marriage and Morosini immediately set up business as a portrait artist. He exhibited five portraits at the RHA in 1861.
The Braidwood Museum, New South Wales, has Jeremiah Linde Jones’s full Navy uniform (minus these two buttons), cocked hat and sword.

Anglo Indian Campaign Chest with Secretaire c1860
,a wonderfully evocative two part Anglo-Indian narrawood & Chinese elm secretaire – campaign chest of drawers for military use or exotic travel, of good smallish size. Made in an Indian run workshop for the UK / European market of Straits Chinese timbers. The original feet unscrew, the top drawer fitted as a writing desk, with original wool felt, key to inner door, & nice old paperwork / ephemera inside c1860.
