Pair of French Empire period Library Chairs c 1815

A stylish pair French Empire mahogany fauteuils or armchairs ‘a la Reine’ in retour d’Egypte taste, with scimitar legs, the arms in the form of lotus flowers, with shallow Egyptian revival palm frond tablets at the arm junctions. Made of best heavy  quality mahogany,  with good patina.

Attributed to Jacob-Desmalter/ François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter (1770-1841, son of Jacob Desmalter), cabinet maker to Napoleon, c 1815.
